Arline Porter Obituary (1934 - 2025) - Hope Mills, North Carolina

Arline McConchie Porter, age 91, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025. She was preceded in death by her faithful and loving husband, Fred Henry Porter. Arline lived a wonderful, adventurous, and deeply artistic life. She grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, where she met Fred in junior high school.. She also discovered her calling to become a teacher. Arline attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, later transferring back home to Upsala College, where she graduated with a teaching degree. She and Fred were married in August of 1956, beginning a beautiful life together filled with love, creativity, and exploration. A beautiful singer, Arline shared her talent widely throughout her life. She sang with Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Upsala College, the Monmouth Civic Chorus in New Jersey, and the Wilmington Choral Society in North Carolina. She also performed in numerous musical productions in both New Jersey and North Carolina with her only child, Linda. Arline and Fred traveled extensively, visiting family in England, Scotland, and Bermuda. Her favorite adventures included a safari in Kenya and relaxing on the beaches of the island of Kauai, which held a special place in her heart. A true beach girl through and through, Arline loved camping and being close to God and nature while living on Carolina Beach, Tryon, and Oak Island, North Carolina, as well as St. Augustine, Florida. An accomplished artist and passionate supporter of the arts, Arline loved creating and appreciating works from many different artists, opened galleries, Earth Tones and Earth Stones. Her love of rocks and geology led her to donate The Porter Rock Collection to the UNCW Earth Sciences Department. Arline is survived by her beloved daughter, Linda Porter Good (Michael), and her cherished grandchildren, Forest and David.
